‼️Your dog is highly skilled and unemployed‼️
Dogs have lived alongside humans for 10,000 - 40,000 years and during that time, we have transformed them into highly specialized genetic groups including, herding dogs, guardians, terriers, hunters, trackers etc.
Our dogs are occupational experts who, for the most part, have found themselves unemployed in our modern world.
🐾 Herding dogs without a sheep in sight to herd… But plenty of joggers, strollers and cars to chase!
🐾 Gun dogs with no water fowl to retrieve… But lots of socks, shoes and water bottles to carry around the house!
🐾 Guardian dogs with no livestock to protect… But grandma has been looking awfully suspicious these days.
🐾 Terriers, no longer living in and around businesses, keeping the varmints at bay… But the cat or your neighbour's little dog might look close enough.
🐾 Scent hounds, no longer needed for their voice to let hunters know where the prey is… Well, they may be driving you and your neighbours crazy with all of the "singing" they do on the daily.
As a trainer and family dog mediator, I see a lot of owner's stress over behaviours that are ultimately very normal for our canine companions. "It needs to be fixed!" "It needs to be changed!" "It needs to be 'trained out' of the dog!"
❌️ A lot of people jump to "how?" How do we change the dog? How do we change the behaviour?
We forget to ask, "Why?" Why is the behaviour happening in the first place?
✅️ When we uncover the "why", we can find a solution that makes all parties happy; A solution that restores peace in the home while honouring the dog as an individual, their history and their ancestors.
